1 Bernie S. Siegel Love, Medicine, and Miracles
Harpercollins 1986-05 0060154969 / 9780060154967 Hardcover Used: Good Hardcover
Siegel, a New Haven surgeon, believes that the power of healing stems from the human mind and will, that his scalpel only buys time against cancer, and that self-love and determination are more important than choice of therapy. His philosophy has caused radical changes in his practice. Siegel recounts many arresting anecdotes: joyous stories of patients who survived against all odds, sad chronicles of those who seemingly gave up and assented to their own deaths. The author's credentials make this one of the more plausible books on the mind-body connection. For most public libraries and holistic health collections. Judith Eannarino, George Washington Univ. Lib., Washington, D.C.Copyright 1986 Reed Business Information, Inc. Review"Run, don't walk, to the nearest bookstore and get this amazing book that explains how you can 'think' yourself sick or well...Every family should have a copy. It can be a lifesaver." -- Ann Landers

12 Ira Progoff Practice of Process Meditation
Dialogue House Library 1980-06 0879410094 / 9780879410094 Paperback Used: Good Paperback
Reader review: 29 of 29 people found the following review helpful: Twenty Years Later, the Message is Still Relevant, July 4, 2002 By Lynn Merrill (Oklahoma, USA) - See all my reviews I looked this book up on Amazon.com to recommend to a friend and was disappointed to find no review or synopsis, so I thought Id write one. :)The Practice of Process Meditation was very important to me twenty years ago when I was searching for my spiritual beliefs. Rereading it now at midlife after studying Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell is fascinating. It relates to both of their ideas. Progoff pondered the massive book burning by the Nazi's during World War II and wondered what would happen if all the books in the world were burned. He concluded science would recover but would religion? What if all our sacred books were destroyed? Then it came to him that mankind would "simply draw new spiritual scriptures from the same source out of which the old ones came.... the resources of the human spirit." (pg 10) And if we could do that in such an emergency, we can do it now, and each of us can do it for our own personal Bibles of what makes sense to us and gives our lives meaning. He calls the sacred texts of every religion Bibles. Like Campbell he believes that Each of the Bibles carries its share of this contact with the great Unity of Life. (pg 13) And that The teachings of the ancient Bibles do indeed come from another universe, another cultural world inhabited in a distant historical time. (pg 13) He says we need to do these spiritual journeys to extend their meaning in the present. (pg 14)The book takes us through a meditation methodology designed to help us view our lives as a whole, examine the major milestones in them, and the direction they have taken us. It enables us to see the direction in which we are going. From page 19:The first step is to acknowledge the problems of our life as we find them, to observe and describe them as objectively as we can. That gives us a reference point in outer reality, but we do not establish our position there. We draw back. We move away from the surface of things. We move inward in order to return with a greater resource to use in re-approaching the situation. It is basic to this inward phase of the work that we begin by setting the movement of our life as a whole in perspective. Once we have established our life context we have parameters within which we can move deeper and deeper to explore the contents and resources of our life. The purpose and style of that exploration is neither to diagnose nor to judge, but to enable our life to disclose to us what its goals and its meanings are. In doing this, we each find different meanings, different directions for our lives. The methodology for doing this Process Meditation is the Intensive Journal Method which Progoff developed (Q.V. his book At a Journal Workshop). Using this methodology, The Practice of Process Meditation guides us through making a Journal with sections for various logs and dialogues having to do with our past, our meditations, and our dreams. Among these are: Intersections: Roads Taken and Not Taken, Now: The Open Moment, Process Meditation, Meditation Log, Connections, Mantras/Crystals, Peaks, Depths and Explorations, and Testament. Then it leads us through meditations and exercises to fill in these sections. From page 85:As a methodology for the inner life, Process Meditation provides a context of principles and a variety of procedures for opening channels of connection between our inner processes and the spiritual teachings and traditions of our past. In the course of our life they may have become estranged from one another, but we wish now to open the possibility of renewal and a deepening dialogue. Whatever they are Process Meditation rejects none and is intended to replace none .It complements the beliefs to which you find yourself drawn by providing additional contexts of experience and new angles from which they can be approached. Given these new perspectives you are better able to consider what valid place a particular doctrine may have in your future beliefs and in your spiritual life. Especially because of its active procedures, Process Meditation often serves as a catalyst so that many people find that it stimulates fresh experiences within the framework of old beliefs that had become routine.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is asking the big questions of why am I here? what does my life mean? and where do I go from here?

15 Kevin J. Todeschi; Association for Research and Enlightenment Edgar Cayce's Esp (A.R.E. Membership Series)
A.R.E. Press (Association of Research & Enlig 1996-11 0876043740 / 9780876043745 Paperback Used: Very Good Paperback
Product DescriptionOne of the most remarkable stories of the twentieth century about one of the most incredible men who ever lived: Edgar Cayce, a Kentucky farm boy whose psychic powers healed thousands, touched countless lives, and inspired the dawn of the New Age.For more than forty years, Edgar Cayce (1877–1945), the “sleeping prophet,” regularly exhibited an astonishing psychic ability. From an altered state, he was able to read minds and souls, diagnose thousands of illnesses, successfully prescribe remedies, see into the past and the future, and tap into a source of universal knowledge where such information resides—a source Cayce said is available to us all.For anyone who has heard of Edgar Cayce—and his name is familiar to millions—here is a concise, reliable, immensely readable introduction to his life, work, and message. In Edgar Cayce’s ESP, his story is told by writer Kevin Todeschi, an authority on Cayce’s work and the director of the popular educational organization Cayce founded, the Association for Research and Enlightenment.Drawing upon more than 14,000 case histories and readings, Todeschi presents a wealth of proof of Cayce’s psychic abilities and the effects they had on the lives of his contemporaries. Todeschi focuses especially on the character of the modest, generous Cayce himself, a man who started out in life as a sensitive, Bible-reading Kentucky farm boy and who grew up to become an unlikely prophet of the New Age and the most famous psychic in American history.

16 Lawrence D. Kusche The Bermuda Triangle Mystery Solved
Harper & Row 1975-01-01 006012475X / 9780060124755 Hardcover Used: Good Hardcover
Former library copy with usual markings. Good, clean condition. To this day, the Bermuda Triangle is regarded by many as a mysterious zone of influence within which an unusual number of ships and planes disappear without a trace. At the very least, its reputation as a region associated with some unspecified danger remains. Why this is so, after the first publication of Mr. Kusche's book more than twenty years ago, is perhaps a more interesting question than whether or not the Bermuda Triangle's reputation is deserved. Regardless, it is this latter question that Kusche attempts to answer. His approach is simply to do the necessary research--whenever and wherever he encounters an account or tale of tragedy in the Bermuda Triangle, he looks up the relevant accounts and finds the facts. If the facts leave the fate of the ship or plane(s) ambiguous, he says so. If his research turns up a likely explanation, he is forthright and direct in proposing it.What Kusche finds, in sum, is that the Bermuda Triangle is essentially a myth. Many of the Bermuda Triangle disappearances are not nearly as mysterious as has been suggested; some ships that were lost in supposedly calm seas were in fact sailing into fierce storms, while others were lost nowhere near the Triangle area itself. Several of the tragedies said to have occurred there are associated with no records at all--leaving one to wonder how popularizers of this "mystery" can be certain that there was anything to disappear. Before Mr. Kusche's research the Bermuda Triangle "mystery" melts away, leaving nothing more substantial than an urban legend. Writers such as Charles Berlitz are revealed as writers of fiction in thin disguise [Berlitz was co-author of the first published book on the alleged crash of a UFO at Roswell, New Mexico, which should do much to illuminate the reliability of that story as well]. This book is reasonably well written and easy to get through. If you want to read about the Bermuda Triangle, this is the only book I would recommend.

17 Miriam Cameron Karma and Happiness: A Tibetan Odyssey in Ethics, Spirituality, and Healing
Fairview Press 2001-10-25 157749105X / 9781577491057 Paperback Used: Good Paperback
Former library book with moderate wear/creasing to covers. Clean, complete text. Good reading copy.If storytelling is at the heart of human learning, then Cameron (Hello, I'm God and I'm Here to Help You) has opened a softly lit doorway to a greater understanding of the ethical complexities in the struggle between Tibet and China. Cameron is a Jew who converted from Christianity, and in her quest for a more complete spiritual and ethical framework she found rich, compatible resonances in yoga, the twelve-step program, bioethics and, lastly, Buddhism. A Ph.D. and R.N with a broad yen for wisdom stored across traditions, she and her beloved husband Mike have an apparently insatiable quest for philosophy that guides ethical behavior. This book describes the chapter in their lives wherein they doggedly pursued a just comprehension of the centuries-old relationship between the "neighboring" countries of Tibet and China, a conflict brought to the world's attention by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The gifts of this book are several. The guileless story of their travels, especially in Tibet, is vivid and engaging, engendering empathy a "must read" for anyone contemplating the trip. The thrust and quality of their search to understand the perspective of both nations is a forgotten art. Although Cameron frames the work as an ethical quest, which it is, her greatest gift is a historical and cultural overview of what has transpired between Tibet and China. This should be required reading, especially for American Buddhists. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information, Inc.Product DescriptionWestern culture and healthcare often view ethics, spirituality, and healing as separate entities. But in Tibetan Buddhism, the three are inextricably linked: ethical behavior leads to spiritual growth, and our spiritual strength can heal us from the emotional and physical wounds we incur in life. In this book, a nurse ethicist uses the story of her journey to Tibet as a framework for showing how we can apply this karmic principle in our daily lives. Her book provides a model for integrating diverse wisdom traditions into our personal spirituality---allowing us to find meaning in life, to live ethically, and to transform life's challenges into healing experiences.

18 Ra Bonewitz Cosmic Crystal Spiral: Crystals and the Evolution of Human Consciousness
Element Books 1991-11 0906540941 / 9780906540947 Paperback Used: Good Paperback
A few notes in pencil. Great reading copy. Reader review:In this very readable little book, Ra Bonewitz describes a plausible theory behind popular New Age belief in the healing power of crystals, drawing a parallel between the order represented by the lattice-like structures of mineral crystals and the order represented by organic chemistry and which is considered by most of us to be a characteristic of consciousness in a rational person. He says that this order is one and the same in each such context, just expressed in different scales of complexity. The book is fun to read no matter what you believe.
